Göteborg's Rapé (Limited Edition 2018) - Preview. 16 May 2018.

Swedish Match has announced a new limited edition GR product, this one with the flavor of blueberry! I'm excited to see the blueberry flavor finally catching on. Epok makes one, and so does the WOW! brand.  Now, Swedish Match looks to be trying out this flavor profile.

The product description says, "Göteborgs Rapé Limited Edition 2018 has its foundation in Rapé's classical character, but with a touch of Swedish berries and with a higher nicotine strength. Only sold in limited edition during the summer of 2018. The snus has a light and spicy tobacco character with elements of blueberry and lavender, as well as some vanilla and citrus." This product comes in a 21.6 gram can with 24 portions for 0.9 grams each. The nicotine content is 12mg/g (1.2%) or 10.8mg/portion.

Lundgren's Marstrand 2018 (Limited Edition) - Preview.

Fiedler and Lundgren are launching a new limited edition product, Lundgren's Marstrand (2018). SnusBolaget.se says only 4,000 of these were made. The price point is 150kr, or almost $18.00 USD for one can of snus. It comes in a pretty neat box, so if you're a snus collector like myself I suppose the cost is justified. Marstrand is a seaside locality in Sweden which is popular for sailing. The flavor description seems to go along with that: "Lundgren's Marstrand 2018 is a Fiedler and Lundgren interpretation of Marstrand and is inspired by warm, salt washed rocks, a smell of tarred rowboats, and wild growing rose hips and heather shrubs you can find on the road to the sea." The can weighs 21.6 grams and has a nicotine content of 9mg/g. SnusBolaget says this is a white portion, so I'm assuming it will be the perforated type, like their last limited edition - Lundgren's Infusion 2016 and Lundgren's Lavender and Lemongrass 2017.  I don't see this being sold to the US, so I'll try to track some down to do a review of it.  I'm someone who loves the water, so this flavor sounds delicious to me!

G4 Cryo (All White) Super Strong - Review. 13 May 2018.

The "all white" category has been becoming more and more popular the past few years. Swedish Match has been getting into this category with their new G4 line. In May of 2017 they launched their first "white tobacco" product - G4 Blue Mint. In October of 2017 they followed that one up with a stronger version, G4 Blizzard. In February of 2018, they launched G4 Apple/Mint. Now, they have launched G4 Cryo, which has a similar taste to Blue Mint and Blizzard, but with more nicotine! The flavor description of this one says, "G.4 CRYO has a pronounced peppermint character with cooling sensation that spreads throughout the mouth and provides an extra, almost burning, bite to the high nicotine strength. In the background there is green mint, hints of vanilla, and some sweetness.” This one comes in a 19.2 gram can with 24 portions for 0.8 gram portions. The nicotine content is 22mg/g (2.2%), which breaks down to 17.6mg/portion."

This is a comparison between Epok Snus and General G.4. This is the Blue Mint product, but it's the same stuff inside as what is in the Cryo product. You can see the portions look very much the same, as does the tobacco inside. The Epok tobacco is a little more white, and the G4 tobacco is a little more fine. Swedish Match said they’re using white tobacco which is added along with natural fibers. They say the product is white before, during, and after use.

When you open the can, the aroma that greets you is a gentle, smooth smell of peppermint. It's a little sweet, but not too sweet. The portions are soft and comfortable in the lip and come with a mild burn, and then a gentle cooling presence. The taste is much like Blue Mint and Blizzard, if you've had those. It's a mild taste of peppermint and a light touch of sweetness. The peppermint is very gentle, and comes across in a smooth, pleasant way. The nicotine kick is strong, and it comes in quick! This definitely feels stronger than your regular extra strong snus. The flavor lasts a good amount of time; I've found I can enjoy these for up to an hour!  If you're into the "all white" or "white tobacco" category but want something really strong, this is worth a try.  As of right now, this is currently the strongest "white tobacco" product on the market!

Skruf Fresh: Super White (#2 Original and #3 Strong) - Reviews. 12 May 2018.

The "all white"/"white tobacco" snus category has become moved from fad to full on craze. People are really digging this stuff. Now, it appears as though Skruf is looking to make a name for themselves in this category, but doing so in a different way. They recently launched these two products - Skruf Super White, which comes in an original strength (#2) and a strong (#3). This category has been growing for quite some time now. Epok Snus, which is a white tobacco product, is widely praised. Swedish Match also has their new General G4 product, which is another white tobacco product, and their Zyn NT product line, which is a dryer product containing nicotine salt and no tobacco. In the past, Swedish Match also made General Omni, which was a dryer product, and contained cellulose fibers and a small amount of tobacco. But these new products from Skruf are slightly different from those.

These products are moist, and feel like snus. Inside the pouch you'll find what looks like white tobacco, but isn't actually tobacco.  This product contains plant fibers and nicotine.  It feels like tobacco, looks like tobacco (other than being white), and feels like a snus portion in the lip, but isn't actually tobacco.  This is an interesting product, because there are a lot of people who want to quit smoking, and many of them want to quit tobacco all together, but don't want to give up nicotine.  That's where products like this, and Zyn for example, become important.

Skruf Super White #2 (Original) Fresh

The flavor description for this product says "Skruf Super White Slim Fresh No.3 (Strong) portion snus comes in full white portions. They remain completely white before, during and after use. This is a Strong nicotine snus and the taste is reminiscent of the mint flavor of other products in Skruf's "Fresh" line."  This product comes in a 17.3 gram can with 24 portions for 0.72 grams each. The nicotine content is listed as a 2/3, which I'm assuming is the equivalent 8mg/g.

When you open the can, the aroma that greets you is a sharp, fresh smell of peppermint. The portions are soft and comfortable in the lip and feel no different from a slim original portion snus. Being a mint product, you'll encounter a little tingle and a cooling presence in the lip, as well. The taste is a mild, gentle, lightly sweet taste of peppermint. The bottom of the can mentions salmiak in the recipe, but I don't notice a heavy salt character. The nicotine delivery feels to be the same as regular snus, and feels comfortable to a regular strength Swedish snus product. The flavor lasts a pretty good amount of time; I can usually keep these in for about 45 minutes on average.

Skruf Super White #3 (Strong) Fresh

The flavor description for this product says "Skruf Super White Slim Fresh No.3 (Strong) portion snus comes in full white portions. They remain completely white before, during and after use. This is a Strong nicotine snus and the taste is reminiscent of the mint flavor of other products in Skruf's "Fresh" line."  This product comes in a 17.3 gram can with 24 portions for 0.72 grams each. The nicotine content is listed as a 3/4, which I'm assuming is the equivalent 12-14mg/g.

This one is basically the exact same as the last one, except more nicotine.  The aroma is a sharp, straightforward smell of peppermint.  The portions are soft and comfortable in the lip, and come with a nice cooling presence, as well.  The taste, much like the last one, is a lightly sweet, gentle taste of peppermint.  The nicotine feels to be equivalent to a Swedish snus strong portion, and has a nice little kick to it.  The flavor also lasts around 45 minutes on average.

Both of these products were pretty good.  They're not something I would personally use, but I can suggest them to people who enjoy nicotine, but want to quit tobacco.  While these products aren't for me, I can see why they exist and they certainly do have a place on the market amongst other nicotine alternatives.

Snubie 9 Year Anniversary & Snubie Snus #2! 11 May 2018.

This month, we are celebrating Snubie.com's 9 Year Anniversary! This time, we weren't able to work out the 50% off deal with SnusCENTRAL.com but I wanted to do something special for the supporters of Snubie.com! Something fell into my lap and I think it's truly the best way to celebrate 9 years of doing Snubie.com, and it's a great way to give back to you - the supporters of Snubie.com!

Some of you may remember that last year I created my first snus - Snubie Brandy Alexander.  This was a snus created in partnership with V2 Tobacco, and brought back my favorite snus flavor of all time: Brandy Alexander!  Supplies are starting to run low, so I had a conversation with V2 about what comes next.  We decided to delist Snubie Brandy Alexander because it's not a summer flavor, and I wanted to begin work on Snubie Snus #2!

As a way to give back to the supporters of Snubie.com, I decided it would be fun to let YOU choose the flavor!  This is going to be done by three polls that will take place over the next several weeks.  Now, for my next snus, I want it to be a flavor that does not currently exist on the market, or a flavor you'd like to see come back.

Poll #1 (THIS POLL IS NOW CLOSED) - In this poll, you will suggest what flavor you'd like to see, and tell me your favorite portion type, nicotine strength, and current favorite snus.  This will help me in the end when I craft the snus.

Poll #2 (THIS POLL IS NOW CLOSED) - In this poll, everyone will vote on three choices from the results.  From this poll, I will make a top 10 list!

Poll #3 - (THIS POLL IS NOW CLOSED) - In this poll, everyone will select one flavor they want to see produced from the top 10 list, and the winner will be the flavor of Snubie Snus #2!

I'm very excited to see what flavors you suggest, and I'm looking forward to creating my second snus.  I think this is a great way to give back to you, the supporters of Snubie.com.  Happy 9 year anniversary to Snubie.com, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

The polls are now closed.  Thanks for all your votes!  I'll announce my next snus soon!

Small Batch #3 (Apple Mint) - Review. 4 May 2018.

The Small Batch series is a new series of snus launched by Swedish Match this year. Swedish Match describes the Small Batch line by saying, "We at Swedish Match have produced thousands of products over the course of a few hundred years. Our experts are experts in the correct sense of the word. But they have not been tired of developing new ideas. In order for them to get that opportunity - and for Swedish snusers to be able to share it all - we now launch a new range of products called Small Batch, where the flavor is replaced several times a year. Each flavor is produced in a small edition." Small Batch #1 had a flavor of champagne. Small Batch #2, my favorite of the series so far, had a taste of blood orange.  Now, Small Batch #2 has been released with a mint flavor!

The flavor description for this one says, "In this snus we have experimented with several mints to get a rounded character and then add fruity elements of green apple. The green elements of the mint act as an aroma and tasteful brew to the apple character, which in turn contributes to a sour and fruity tone. The mint also gives a cool sensation in the mouth." This snus comes in a 24 gram can with 24 portions, for 1 gram portions. They don't list the nicotine content, however.

When you open the can, the aroma that greets you is predominantly spearmint with a green apple hint in the background. The portions come in the Star Formation and are 1 gram each, so they're nice and plump and feel great in the lip. Being a mint product, you also get that familiar cooling sensation in the lip which is common of most mint products. The taste is very much like the aroma! The taste is a well balanced flavor of mildly sweet spearmint and fresh apple. As far as the nicotine goes, I'm not sure what the strength is, but it feels to be either regular strength or just a little stronger. The flavor lasts a good amount of time; I've found I can usually keep these in for up to an hour.

Okay, so now let me list my gripes with this snus. First, I enjoy mint snus, don't get me wrong. But, in my opinion, the Small Batch series is meant to be unique flavors that don't exist on the market. There is more than enough mint snus on the market. Not only that, but a few months ago Swedish Match already released an apple/mint flavored snus - G4 FU:ZN. That being said, this is a tasty snus and I enjoyed the flavor.  However, I hope the next two products released in the Small Batch series have a more unique flavor and aren't something we already have now.

If you like mint snus, this one is still worth a try.  It's available at the Swedish Match e-store for those of you in Sweden. Unfortunately, it's not available to the US for some reason.

General Cut (Chew Bags): Original - Review. 28 April 2018.

January of last year I reviewed General Cut - Original and Extra Strong. These were "chew bag" products produced by Swedish Match. For those just tuning in, chew bags are products made much the same way as snus, but branded as "chewing tobacco" or "chew bags" so they can be legally sold in the EU. I won't go too much into the differences between Swedish Snus and Nordic Chew in this video, but if you want to learn the differences, you can check them out in this video. So why, you may ask, am I revisiting these products? As some of you may recall, in September of 2017, Swedish Match purchased V2 Tobacco. V2 had a strong handle on production and distribution of these chew bag products, and now it appears as though Swedish Match is shifting production of their chew bag products to the V2 factory in Denmark. The bottom of the can now says "Produced in Denmark at Swedish Match NE AB", which I'm assuming is V2 Tobacco.  In light of that, I decided I would revisit these products to see what changes had occurred, and compare them to the last time I reviewed them.

General Cut - Original

The flavor description for these says, “General Cut Original has a full bodied and spicy tobacco taste with notes of bergamot and hints of tea, hay, and leather." This product comes in an 18 gram can with 18 portions for 1 gram each. The nicotine content is 14mg/g (1.4%) which breaks down to 14mg/portion.

When you open the can, the aroma is a rich tobacco smell, accompanied by a little pepper and a touch of citrus. The portions are soft, have a decent amount of moisture, and soft tobacco. The flavor is a present tobacco taste accompanied by a clean, clear citrus flavor and a touch of pepper. The nicotine feels to be right at the strong level and has a nice kick. The flavor lasts a good amount of time; I can usually keep these in for up to an hour. If I had to compare, I would say these remind me of a mix of General XRANGE Original and Offroad Gold Original. It’s pretty tasty.

General Cut Original - Titanium

The flavor description for these says, ”General Cut Titanium Original has a full bodied and spicy tobacco taste with notes of bergamot and hints of tea, hay, and leather.” This product comes in an 18 gram can with 18 portions for 1 gram portions. The nicotine strength is 20mg/g (2.0%), which breaks down to 20mg/portion.

When you open the can, the aroma is a present, earthy tobacco smell with a touch of citrus and a little pepper. The portions are soft, have a great moisture amount, and soft tobacco inside. The flavor is an earthy tobacco taste with a clear, clean citrus flavor and a mild touch of pepper. The nicotine has a really strong kick and feels right at the extra strong level. The flavor, on average, lasts up to an hour.  Also, when comparing, and much like the last one, these also remind me of a mix of General XRANGE Original and Offroad Gold Original in terms of flavor.

General Cut White - Titanium

This is a new one.  Cut was originally launched with Original and Original Extra Strong White; there wasn't a white portion version, but now there is!  The flavor description for this product says, "General Cut Titanium White has a full bodied and spicy tobacco taste with notes of bergamot and hints of tea, hay, and leather." This product comes in a 21.6 gram can with 24 portions for 0.9 grams each. The nicotine content is 20mg/g (2.0%), which breaks down to 18mg/portion.

I was really interested to try this one, as there wasn't a version of these released in the past. When you open the can, the aroma that greets you is a mild, gentle tobacco character with a present citrus smell and a light hint of pepper. The portions are very soft and also contain soft tobacco. The flavor is a balance of mild tobacco character and mild, gentle citrus. There’s also a little pepper in the background. The nicotine packs a punch - it feels firmly at the extra strong level and hits quicker than most chew bags I’ve had in the past. The flavor on these lasts well over an hour; I’ve had some in for up to an hour and a half. If I had to compare, I’d say these remind me of a cross between General XRANGE White and Offroad Gold White Mini.

So, you're probably wondering what the differences are.  I threw together a quick photo so you can see the Swedish Match version (left) with the V2 Tobacco version (right). The taste is different - but I find it to be more gentle, and balanced. The nicotine is the same in the regular version, but 2mg/g higher in the extra strong version.  I find both to be pretty good, so it's hard to say one is better than the other.  All I can say is this - they're different.  But the new ones are definitely worth a try and I did enjoy them!
